It is the oldest event of this type in Poland. For the first time it was held in 1977. During the last years the event became all-Poland and international. A day before the New Year’s Eve famous Polish runners and sportsmen from Ukraine, Belarus, Germany and Slovakia arrive at Szydłów.
In “Polish Carcassone", Artur Osman won five times, Izabela Zatorska five times, Rafał Wójcik four times, the Ukrainian Jurij Giczun three times. During the long history of the event of Szydłów many competitors participated in it, including those with many titles, including Piotr Gładki – a double Olympian, Artur Błasiński – a multimedalist of Polish championship or the European champion in cross-country race for 7 km, Byelorussian Tatiana Holovchenko. Many talented young people from the Świętokrzyskie province and outside it earned their first sporting stripes running along the picturesque streets of Szydłów.
